Tertulia VII: Clubs Celebrate History & Music in February

03.22.2022

On the evening of February 24, the Historic Preservation Association of Coral Gables (HPACG) and the Coral Gables Music Club joined together to celebrate Tertulia Musical, the 7th installment of the Coral Gables Tertulia, and the talent of 19 young musicians under the direction of Music Club Artistic Director Angelica Sganga. As a former recipient of a Music Club scholarship, Ms. Sganga has given back to the community in her role as the Scholarship Program Director for the last 15 years.

Prior to the recital, members representing both groups kicked off the festivities with a private reception at the historic home of Ann Goodman in the Castile Avenue Historic District. Champagne flowed like water as members enjoyed gourmet hors d’oeuvres before strolling a few blocks to enjoy the recital in the sanctuary of the Coral Gables Congregational Church.

The event was co-chaired by Carlos de Salazar, Brett Gillis, Ann Goodman, Don Queralto and Berenice Rodriguez. Co-chair and Music Club President Ann Goodman stated, “The event was a wonderful opportunity for the two non-profit organizations to join together to appreciate the talent of these young artists and enjoy wonderful music with others who appreciate history and the arts! Both organizations are grateful for the generosity of the Coral Gables Congregational Church for ongoing support and use of their facilities.”

Named after the literary salons of 17th century Spain, the Coral Gables Tertulia was founded by Brett Gillis in 2019 to present interesting and educational topics that promote the understanding and importance of historic resources and their preservation.
