“An Island Getaway” Fas-ee-oh Style with Andrea Taylor: Indian Creek Country Club

05.04.2024

An elegant overview of the event by board member Bruce Fitzgerald

SUNDAY IN THE SALON WITH MAURICE

The Indian Creek Country Club was the prestigious setting for the Historic Preservation Association of Coral Gables’ luncheon that attracted a full complement of Association members and friends, the Indian Creek Village mayor, and — perhaps most notably — Andrea Taylor, the granddaughter of the Club’s original architect, Maurice Fatio.

On that Sunday afternoon, the past was ever-present within the soaring space of the Card Room Salon — a grand, meticulously restored room designed by Fatio (along with the Club itself) in 1929. With its sprawling
assemblage of restored Mediterranean Revival buildings, the architecturally-significant Club enveloped over 30 guests with a palpable aura of both history and camaraderie. And food, glorious food.

HPACG president, Karelia Martinez Carbonell gave opening remarks before introducing Ms Taylor, who spoke from the heart about her illustrious grandfather and his remarkable career, which includes many
extant historic homes in Palm Beach as well as the Vanderbilt mansion on Fisher Island.

The event concluded in a welcome haze of nostalgia coupled with gratitude that such buildings have survived as they approach their second century of existence.

The fundraiser benefited historic resources and their preservation. Members and friends of HPACG gathered at the ulta exclusive historically significant country club at Indian Creek Village for an afternoon of enjoyment immersed in history celebrating 100 years of Maurice Fatio’s architecture legacy in Florida.

default“…Thank you for so graciously inviting me to speak at your wonderful event. What a great association that you are all engaged in. I commend you for bringing forth such support and meaningful conversations and actions to preserve the history in this area of the world. I fully adhere to your mission…”  A quote from Andrea Taylor, special guest speaker and granddaughter of star architect Maurice Fatio
